Matthew Mitlas is a popular Yoga instructor with thousands of hours of experience, teaching in Collegeville, Ambler, Blue Bell, Narberth, Montgomery County, and the Greater Philadelphia Area.
Matthew’s practice began in 2011 while preparing his move to Connecticut to study vocal performance. In hopes of instilling a deeper connection with his breath and his already-existing mindfulness practice, he decided to take a Yoga class. Matthew immediately felt a deep connection to Yoga, started practicing daily, and was soon sharing the practice with his friends, family, and even strangers- Yoga was all he talked about! He soon realized his natural understanding for Yoga philosophy and a keen desire to learn more was leading him down a very different path than expected. That same year, Matthew made a life-changing decision to move back to Pennsylvania to further his studies in Yoga and Mindfulness; embarking on a life-long path as a Yoga teacher. A short three months later Matthew met his mentor Connie Miller, Master Yoga Instructor with 40+ years experience, while taking a credited Yoga course at the local college. For two years, Matthew and Connie worked privately through a highly personalized and custom 200+ hour, Alliance certified, teacher training. He has since been certified to teach women with breast cancer by Allison Donley, E-RYT 500, children of all ages by Sally McNeil Delisle, E-RYT 500, of Childlight Yoga, and most recently completed an Advanced Teacher Training (75 hr) with internationally renowned teacher Alex Auder (Magu Yoga.) Matthew teaches private, group, and corporate classes and workshops. He offers a wide variety of special interest classes including Beginner's Yoga, Yoga for over-weight women, Yoga for people with chronic pain, Yoga for actors and singers, Yoga and Essential Oils, and most recently taught a beautiful group of soul trekkers (of which he was a part) by the Mediterranean sea on the beaches of Natanya, Israel. Among his private, group, and corporate classes, Matthew also teaches for two wonderful non-profits: Pillars of Light and Love, who's mission is to empower children, teens, and young adults, and Unite for Her, bringing holistic methods of wellness into the lives of women with breast cancer. Matthew is a certified Reiki Level I practitioner, has completed basic level training in Zero Balancing (a leading-edge, highly effective and gentle body work), completed Balanced Body's Barre/Pilates Fitness training, has completed hours of study in sound healing with Jill Mattson, and is an Independent Product Consultant for dōTERRA Essential Oils. Matthew is also a writer- commissioned to write Yoga and wellness blogs for various Yoga studios and has even been published with MindBody Online’s blog share. Philosophy |
Matthew’s style of teaching is influenced by the Kripalu, Anusara, and more recently Ashtanga traditions of Yoga, Ayurveda, and mindfulness. His classes invite a strong awareness that envelops all types of movement and keeps the mind steady, focused, and light. With his poetic verbal cues, intelligent sequencing and warm presence, Matthew co-creates the conditions and space in which his students can acquire an authentic, inward experience of Yoga. While practicing alignment principles that keep the body safe and exploring inner stillness and breath in each posture, students will become present with the infinite creativity of the universe as it takes form in each and every body in its own, unique way.
